For some reason I have completely overlooked this technique in order to stand out with past clients and friends and to make them feel special. I had experienced first hand “The Signature Gift” several years ago when the agent that sold me the house I live in now would hand deliver a gift basket every Christmas season. I am a little embarrassed that I didn’t even think to do something like this until this year because I think it is such a great idea!
This year I will establish my own Signature Gift. Something that my friends and past clients will (hopefully) look forward to receiving each year. Something that will make them feel special and appreciated. Something that will remind them of me.
Lets examine this idea a little further.
What is a Signature Gift?
A Signature Gift is an item or event that is given or done yearly that people look forward to. It reminds them of you when they receive it. It puts a smile on their face. It makes them feel special. It doesn’t need to be an actual “gift”. It could be a party or event that you throw each year and it doesn’t even need to be during the holidays.
Why use a signature Gift?
- To Stand Out
- To Give your clients something to look forward to
- To remind clients that you are thinking about them and value them
1.Calendars – With the New Year coming this is a great way to provide something of value with a little reminder of you built in. Even in this increasingly digital age, many people still hang calendars in the kitchen so that everyone has access to it.
2. Home Baked Goods – If you love to bake this would be a great way to personalize your gift. Deliver your best freshly baked cookies.
3. Wine – Many wineries will print custom labels on their wine and ship to you.
4. Gift Baskets
Other Signature Suggestions:
I have a friend that hosts an Oscar party every year for the Academy Awards. How cool is that? Roll out a red carpet and have people get dressed up. I have heard of agents renting out a movie theatre for a night and screening family movies. Maybe a hanging basket in the spring? I know several stores that have spring kick off sales where you can buy fuchsia starts and hanging baskets. That might be a cool way to provide a nice little gift to past clients just in time for the spring selling season.
A previous co-worker of mine throws a massive Halloween Party each year. The kind that everyone attends and no one makes any other plans around. They have it on a farm with a huge barn, DJ, staffed bar, etc.
Your special event or item doesn’t have to be huge or expensive. It just has to communicate that you appreciate the person you are providing it for. It should be hand delivered and if they aren’t home then have a pen ready so you can hand write a quick note to them.
I have decided to do Poinsettias. I’ll hand deliver them with a little handwritten note to my A-team. They are inexpensive, last the holiday season and are probably not something they will get from anyone else so they will think of me when they see one in the future.
